My Farewell to Arms

One of life's choices gone awry, An attempt with love, I did try. Knowing where I was destined to be, my true love's arms, I could not see. Compromises made, valiant effort put forth, Too soon did my home become a fort. Angry soldiers were among my kin, Hardened hearts, I was not allowed in. Thrashing and lashing were the daily drills, My heart and soul weakened, no healing from pills. Scars and tears were all I could claim As I walked away from this Fort of Pain. Farewell to arms that once held me, Farewell to arms that so often failed me. Farewell to young battling soldiers, I call my beloved sons. Farewell to angry words, painful fist and your guns. Farewell to arms raised in anger, mine raised in fear. Farewell to you that I have always held so dear. Your happiness and safety...are my earnest plea.. As I say a final farewell to the insanity.
