The Sound of Friendship You opened the door to our friendship with a smile on your face and a hug in your arms. I saw nothing… but a beautiful person that God had blessed my life with. The days of our bonding flew directly into evening. You desired not to leave my side. I did not know… that my home felt safer to you than your own. Suddenly, your voice stopped surrounding me. The sound of your laughter no longer filled my humdrum activities, turning them from mundane occurrences into experiences to be cherished. I quieted the din in my world to be able to hear your world. The melody of your speech drifted away from my ears into a void where reality stifled your words. I felt the vibration of your suffering and I fell to my knees, helpless. You were lost to me and I did not know where to find you. My days passed slowly and in silence Then, as though an afterthought the music came back into my life. Your ghostly gaiety filled my quiet domain and chattered the hours away with my loneliness. Your breath was heard from across the miles as though spoken from across the room. Then came your soft knock upon my door. I opened it to find your face in disquiet relief. The nightmare you had been living was now locked away in another world where he could no longer take away your beauty. I didn't know my dearest, I didn't know. I opened my warm arms to hold your scarred heart. Then opened my old wounds so that you could bleed through them. As you cried, I shared your tears. As you vented, I screamed frustration with you, and as you healed, I finally cleansed my soul. There is a sound in friendship that can never die or fade away. It rides on the wings of a powerful bond, as its whisper blends with the wind in the wake of the passing years. |
