Old and Alone

Old and alone, I don't have a home, My children are grown and are gone. They have families of their own, Every now and then they phone, Just to say "how you doing mom". I wish they knew How lonely, lonely is, And how frightened I am I will die. But you're punished for being old, Your kids are distant and are cold, And I can't understand why, so I cry. "No one wants you anymore", They say with their eyes, Smiling, they're just waiting for you to die. They'll be saying, "it's probably best, She was miserable, now she'll rest". If life ends this way, I do want to die. I wish Frank was still here, He would know how I feel. He was the only one who cared for me. We had a good life, Full of happiness and our strife, I never imagined, without him, where I'd be. Because when I married that man, Forever was our plan, But he left me alone years ago. And now when I need him most, I'm only haunted by his ghost, And I dream of how we loved long ago. As I sit here crippled and bent, And I think about this life I've spent, I just might curse the God who made it. But when I remember my children and Frank, All those blessed times, I just might thank, That loving God who made it all just for me.
