Elegy of a Rose

I. What fleeting passion cut red roses have made bold red petals that still wilt and fade Cut from their roots they soon retire and their carcasses are hung now prepared like a pyre A temporary bliss where has it gone tomorrow? when their arteries are cut none shed tears of sorrow If in mind they are bliss perhaps there they should stay where no faded dry image could ever hold sway forever entrenched in soil or in mind Roses live in bliss on the bush left behind. II So tell me, Queen of Hearts where all roses are red Your crayon Wonderland that reddens as you've said Tell me where the Roses are painted red when born white and rebellious yellow buds are hidden from your sight! Show me all your gardens where the blushing roses grow that shed their blood red petals and mourn their once white soul
