City Morning Morning light on city streets Gilds rough brick walls with a glow, A shimmer that shyly greets The gray sidewalks down below. Early street sounds are muffled By the hush of fading dawn. Fat pigeons yet unruffled Await the rush-hour marathon. From my window I can see The first workers on their way To jobs that will never be As fulfilling as this day. Pity wells within my heart To think of all that they will miss, Shut up in a place apart From this newborn day's sweet kiss. |
