Deep in the Belleau Wood

Belleau Wood, Belleau Wood, Sleep my little ones, The plans you made, The lives you planned, Are now forever done. Belleau Wood, Belleau Wood, Your sweet October blend, Of peace and quite, And days gone by, Of Savageries swift end. Who would’ve known? The lives lost here So many young men die, Most of them upon their lips, The last words ‘Semper Fi” Oh! Belleau Wood Oh! Belleau Wood I walk your hallowed ground Your silence says a thousand words The silence all around Hear me now brave Marines! The sacrifice you made, I pray for you here in these woods The place of honored graves That not in vain, your loyal pledge A freedom forever cast Unselfish actions on that day, That day that was your last. I leave you now in slumber peace And know that God is good He warms you in your final spot Deep in the Belleau Wood.
