COMFORT

As I awake in the dark of night, Sleep drifts away like gulls in flight.    Outside I hear the wind blow cold- It penetrates my very soul;    Howling into my drowsy mind, Sending shivers down my spine-    Causing such utter loneliness That panic rises in my breast.     Grim thoughts wander through my head As I lie here on my bed.    I turn, reach out to touch The one I love so very much.    It is enough; peace descends. You're here my friend, I sleep again.

Additional Notes:
Have you ever felt alone and frightened even as an adult in the dark of night? To me things always seem worse in the night. I wrote this poem to address that feeling and the comfort one receives from the person you love just by their being there.
