The Air I Need The elephant walked with me today, On my breast his feet he laid. He laughed at me while I screamed, Gasping for air, he wouldn't let me breathe. MacLean of legend and Scotland came, the Sea Dragon freed me with his fiery blade. He wrapped my arms around his neck, As he swung me up for heavens breath. Leathery skin of purple and gold, eyes Mahogany brown, that saw into my soul. He watches me roam hills of daffodil bloom, While visiting fairies in secrets' room. The Sea Dragon knows who I am, has Loved and held me even in death. He knows what robs the air I need, Smiles at what others dare not see. Time will walk the hills and whistle in wind Calling out for the man on the Highland cliff. Fall will send leaves into winters sleep, and Spring renews desires his love knows deep. |
Additional Notes:
I wrote this piece after an asthma attack that sent me to the hospital and treatments more intense than my pocket inhaler could provide. I hope those of you with Asthma and a vivid imagination, as well as those of you who have never known what it feels like to have the weight of an elephant on your chest, will appreciate this write.
