The Family Circle (For my cousin Lon)

I know not what the future holds, I only know the past. And when my days are over and my time has come at last, I hope that it will be sufficient in my judges sight that I always tried to act with love and do that which was right. It might have been so different and there would have been no choice, if I could have clearly heard and understood the Master's voice. Is this so great a price to ask for which I'd give my all? Speak audibly to me my Lord and I'll gladly heed the call. But though I've listened patiently, even when it seemed absurd. No answer to the emptiness was ever to be heard. Unable to stand on faith alone, my doubts upon the shelf, I live my life as I see fit and answer to myself. But though my life's a happy one, my peace is not complete. My heart is filled with conflict when I take my family seat. A love there is, a bond that's felt that never needs expression. But always in their eyes I see the never ending question. When will you finally see the light and come out of the cold? When will you do what's good and right and come back to the fold? With those which mean the most to me pulling at my will, my silence echoes loudly and they stay unanswered still. For though I have my ways that they must surely all condemn, were I to live any other way, it would only be for them. The oft unanswered question may forever be my load, but I'll keep the peace I have with me and travel down life's road.

Additional Notes:
An old story of a young man's struggle to find his place within the family. Not meant to generate debate. Just another one of my "smile" poems. Maybe you've been there too. Cheers!
