Dusty Highways

DUSTY HIGHWAYS. I have driven out towards the dusty highways Heading for that dry and sunburned plain. On my way to Marble Bar and Newman, Most people think these towns are all the same. But every town is just so individual, From Wittenoom, onto Nullagine and Cue. Next, I see Big Bell and Meekatharra Wiluna, Roebuck Plains and Hedland too. I love to travel on the dusty highways, Across the cattle grids away up North. Where the horses and the scrubbers are stampeding, And the tourist stop their cars to sit and talk. I like to get away from crowded cities , At times to suit myself when work is through. A holiday up in North West Australia, Is something that’s enjoyed by me and you. I've been from east and west and to Kalgoorlie, To Widgiemooltha, Norseman, Boulder too And traveled down to Esperance and to Bunbury, Albany and Denmark's just a few, But in my heart I’m longing for the Northlands, Where all men rate the same from time to time. My mind just seems to wander to the country, And a nice cold beer and friends at Nullagine The Ghost Gums on the river banks astound me, With beauty that is known by very few. The Fitzroy River races keep me dreaming, Two horses in a race is nothing new. And after the excitement has all ended, I have to wend my weary way back home. A little bit the worse for celebration, I’m sure my life was planned for me to raom. by Thelma Claydon   c
