Behind the Firewall Room #1 J.M. 33yr/male 50% 3rd degree burns charred carnage from waist down Filling truck with gas Car jumped curb pinning him Explosions occurred Driver under age, intoxicated No license Loss of both legs May not survive my shift Room #2 T.L 25yr/female 25% 2nd degree electrical burns multiple areas involved Helping husband with TV antenna Hit high voltage wire Husband killed outright Children in room 2yr daughter clingy 4yr son clutching corner wrapped up in images on TV Condition guarded Room #3 M.T. 38yr/male 20% 2nd degree burns smoke inhalation House fire Attempted to save children Overcome on third attempt One child dead, pt. unaware Maintain constant IV sedation Condition critical Room #7 L.W. 14day/female 20% 3rd degree burns Involving feet, abdomen, hands Burns of unknown origin Suspect child placed in microwave Condition serious ~~~~~~ Shadowed by a pillar, a wail smothered with a deep breath, I step from behind the fire wall to touch their wounds. |
