SILKEN THREADS She sits alone Among her books, Beyond those walls She seldom looks. He sits alone His thoughts in the past, Quiet, pondering, What next will fate cast? A magician's wand, It's spell unbound, Transports the pair To a new land found. For one brief moment They share in life. They laugh, they talk, Free of sadness, of strife. They cherish the snowflakes That crunch in the night, The frost covered trees Bathed in moonlight. They smile in wonder At a glimpse of the past, A winged soldier kissed by Snow, and framed by glass. They laugh at the antics Of a leprechaun unseen, As he casts his spell, And a river runs green. When the magic dust fades, Reality makes them part. The silken thread of memory Holds firm in their hearts. The silken thread holds As they live out their years, Though separate, apart, The memory is held dear. Of a friendship once formed, An unbreakable bond, In an old covered bridge, On a busy duck pond. |
