DUKE & THE BOOGER-BEARS

This is the story of Duke the dog, and the Booger-Bears he always saw; at night, when the yard was dark! Duke would let out a long low growl when the Booger-Bears were on the prowl. Then Duke would shake and Duke would pace, a fierce look upon his face. The Booger-Bears should know their place, and not come in his yard. Oh, Duke. he was an awesome sight  standing in the dark of night, making his stand, ready to fight,  any Booger-Bears he saw. Then Duke would take off with a growl and a bark. Off into the darkest dark, toward the Booger-Bears he saw. Would the Booger-Bears run? Would the Booger-Bears hide? Or, would they stand and face with pride, Duke's threat to tear them apart? I could not stand it anymore. I grabbed a light as I ran out the door, toward Duke and the Booger-Bears. I ran toward the sound of Duke's falling paws as he went for the Booger-Bears he saw; at night when the yard was dark. I shook and quaked, but I pushed back my fear. When I knew the Booger-Bears were near,  I turned on the light,  and they became clear. Now, wasn't that so very queer, the Booger-Bears were only deer. But Booger-Bears were what Duke saw; at night, when the yard was dark!

Additional Notes:
For Duke; who never failed to let us know when the Booger-Bears were near.
