Long Drive Across the Country

I talk too much when I have nothing to say      Too much brightness following my smile I breathe too hard when you look at me that way       Too hard for me to hide behind denial And I should run away I should leave before this goes too far But it’s a long drive across the country, so I stay I obsess too often looking through the glass darkly      Too often left to my own devices I am too sad so I conceive a real life despite what I see      Too sad that nothing we do suffices And I should leave before this goes too far But it’s a long drive across the country, so I stay Hoping my wishes come true, hard to imagine knowing you Dreaming too fast I stand awake jealous in my kitchen       Too fast the person I thought you were slid by Perhaps too long you’ve kept the best of yourself hidden      Too long jaded now, it doesn’t seem worth it to try And it’s a long drive across the country so I stay Hoping all my wishes come true, hard to imagine knowing you The love I planted to blossom sinks silently to decay
