Passion

You talked at me, not to me, I listened, but did not hear. Long ago your words were deflected By my hard defenses against you. Once, I was open to you, But you did not share my heart. You never understood my passion. I grieve for you As a lost part of my soul, But I can not love you, Your embraces were cold. Your feelings too remote, I could not touch your distant star. I never sensed your passion. You were there, but I was gone, Here, there is no place for you. A life worth living is better alone Than one that has no hunger. I am obsessed with loving Not a reflex of obligation. You never perceived my passion. I talk to God, I assume He hears me. I pray for you always, As I would for anyone, Who I once let see me, But then ruthlessly aborted, Without ever knowing their passion.
