THE MISSION

T'was brillig and the slithy tothe Planes flew overhead. Sun lay light Through glass. Stretched on the wood floor, Child's head rested on a four foot stuffed rabbit. My mother read to me. Clap if you believe in fairies! Soul sails seething seriously To imagination. Anticipation, expectation, exhilaration. Faith, hope and love. The Song of Roland played While my father slaved. Men of Iron stand like statues Defying pain and heat. Merlin's magic melts my mind. I search in vain for Excalibur. Instead, I find John Henry's hammer. Stinking, sweating, slave. Hubris joins my Odyssey. There is no choice. The Road  Less Traveled leads where? Turn again, Whittington, thrice lord mayor of Londontown. The Laughing Man dies. Pehaps he needs a Piece of Steak. Jean Valjean cannot escape his galley. Disappointment's disease Causes my heart's cancer. Tom says I cannot go home again. Am I Milkman? Poor Piggy. Do you think he felt much pain? The Dali Lama delivers hope and love and peace. Stan Lee showed me how to be a superhero. Now, I must find out who ate the strawberries.

Additional Notes:
This poem contains a lot of literary allusions. I am interested to know if people get at least some of them. Probably no one will get them all. I am also interested if they enhance the emotions evoked by the poem.
