Sad Song in a Circle

In the darkness of the distance you can barely see the dust driven by relentless riders riding harder than they must. You can sense the anxious heartbeats that anticipate descent into madness that will follow misdirection by consent. Riding whirlwinds made of daydreams,  singing songs that make no sense, there's a longing in their keening;  there's a hope that burns intense. Risking time without a forethought,  on a razor's edge they ride, seeking fullness in false treasures,  casting truth and trust aside. In a race that has no ending,  they ride circles 'round the sun. Echoes serve as navigation  while their world becomes undone. Though the last remains the leader,  no one thinks to stop the race. All that matters for the moment  is the image that they trace.
