Maggie - 27 years later.

She left me in a whisper many moons ago.  She left singing the song, "I'm leaving on a jet plane,      don't know when I'll be back again." How true that was. Didn't hear from her in 16 years. It was that crazy, hazy, time of blue smoke,      and mixed up dreams - like we were going to      save the world, and change society! Of sit ins,      and protests, and cops beating on our heads 'til the blood ran,      and Kent State, and bussing, and marches into Washington,      and least of all, Vietnam! HELL NO WE WON'T GO was      our chant. Then suddenly a phone call least expected. "How are you?" she said 16 years later, "Like what do you care?" I almost replied. I still loved her. I told her, "That's nice" she replied. And then it was me on a jet plane to her. I had this vision of her in my mind -      Sweet, sexy, sibilant. Once there I found out things had changed. Sure we all changed,      BUT She became a Jesus freak. Tried to change me. She was rigid. It was      her way or the highway. I chose the sky way back home. Dreams gone awry. What a fool! What a fool!

Additional Notes:
There was 11 years from the time I first heard from her, until the time I saw her. We are both Jewish. The song was originally sung by Joni Mitchel.
