The Key

Torn, trembling, terrified...tortured inside, I ready for the parting... Suitcases quickly packed sit profoundly by the door eagerly wanting to leave such cold indifference. Little ones sit in anticipation as is their nature innocent of what is to come... Tears win relief slipping silently to the floor unnoticed as we rush to the awaiting cab. Returning to forever lock the door that held us in such unwanted lonliness and loathing unworth. Vowing never to return as the heart literally aches  for what could and should have been. Leaving something that never truly began and still deeply yearning for lost promises. A piercing honk of the horn snaps me aware. A deep breath, a last look at empty nothingness... Unkept, not cared for, nothing nurtured; trembling fingers close and lock the door. Tears freeze into prisms of shattered dreams glistening forever in the daylight hours, until the arrival of Spring and new life begins...
