Blind date!

“I’m to meet an angel on the morrow!” These words he volunteered to his coiffeuse. “I would like to purchase, beg or borrow... anything that will her lure enthuse!”  She enlisted cohorts and a stranger, and set about to pretty-up his head. Silently he knew he courted danger... but no way...could he take back...what he’d said. She combed his head with pasty yellow stuff, then did the same to mustache and goatee. “And this” she said “will tint-a-bit, and fluff; and you’ll look like you did at fifty-three.” She shampooed ‘til home-coming-of-the-cows; then toned and tittered all above his neck.  And when she cut his hair and trimmed his brows... he’d quite resolved to thinking: “What the heck!” And now she blows him dry – while grinning wide; And all her colleagues come to ooh and aah. Though there’s some gray still hanging on the sides... The blonde he is - is not what he foresaw! It does resemble one he used to know! Away back in his military stint.  He’ll do the latter half of “tell and show”… but “aging gracefully” no longer fits. And bright next morning when he’s combed and sprayed, he ventures out to meet his closest friend; “What happened to your hair!” his bud exclaimed... ...He’s naught to say – and nothing...to defend. His luncheon date’s not seen him heretofore; and she can’t know his looks of yesterday; He’ll keep his noonish date and furthermore; he’ll win her whether blonde or green or gray!      Though he’d quit smoking several months before      He lit one, when she was an hour late;      Just then she came a waltzing in the door...      ...That smoke – and not his hair – then sealed his fate!
