Innocent Walk Weathered shoots of weeds fracture with a crisp snap, announcing my presence on an obscure dirt road. A fringe of Queen Anne's Lace edges the tattered border; it curtsies in respect of my foot that toes this forgotten place. I'm detained by a rusty chain draped between barren forms. A dilapidated "No Trespass" sign creaks as it sways in the breeze. I'm seduced to cross the boundary by pungent scent of pine sap and the banter of bullfrogs' play. A robin's merry trill, the lilting melody of a piper, beckons me to a shielded path threaded through a pine tree grove. A sprinkle of goose bumps dots my arms, as I step across the threshold to a child's escapades. |
