My Second Home

I'm sitting on the back porch as the sun is sinking low. The day's work is all done and there's no place I need to go. My heart is filled with joy and there's a smile upon my face, as I thank the blessed maker for this very special place. A place that's filled with memories spent with my family. And wanting to make more of them comes only naturally. I came to know this place when my luck took a different route, and my kinfolk went beyond the call to try and help me out. They provided me a haven from my life of grief and strife, a place where I could lay my head and lead a different life. They showed me love and patience while a few wild seeds were sowed, and gave me time to gain the strength to head on down life's road. When I'm away for very long it's easy to forget the reason's why it means so much, and why I owe a debt to the greatest Aunt and Uncle that a nephew ever had. They took me in and became to me my foster Mom and Dad. The world has turned and I have learned things never stay the same. Survive you must, so you adjust and learn to play the game. But yet I'm always grateful when fate steers me back again and lets me once again recall the way it was back then. Those precious times rest fondly in my memories of the years, the innocence of ignorance, the laughter and the tears. I've travelled the world and seen things some folks only see in dreams. But for all the things I've seen and done, despite it all it seems that no matter where my path may lead, as through this life I roam. None of them compare to when I'm at my second home.
