En Vacances

not a balcony goes unadorned each flowerbox filled with color reds, yellows, purples clean laundry drying in the wind french windows open to the street for the custom of watching August comes with her sweltering heat chasing the citizens away as many shutters are closed and shop windows proclain "En vacances" sudden influx of the foreigner not realizing what they are missing miraculously the language of the street becomes coherent, and the flashbulbs ignite, retain the permanence of architecture the glory of the Eiffel Tower serenity of Notre Dame exuberance of the Seine the spirt of Paris proclaimed
