Respects

And all the horses bowed   (A Good Commercial) The city rests on early weekend morn night setting in the false light of the east farm mothers stretch and yawn, arise from bed to wake their husbands, kiss their children's heads. Twelve horses trotted out with matching strides great Clydesdales blew, soft snorting winter's air. Kept well in hand they move down country road  past farms, dark fences, and still sleeping homes. Though the villages, just waking up, damp store front awnings rolling down the night the harness jingling, tingling as they moved on toward the city, and the waiting site. Bright glowing in the morning sun, the bridge  leaped over Hudson's might, its sparkling span an orange bracelet for the water's might close clasping both its time eroded banks. Hooves pounded out a threnody of war incongruous with all the beauty there rough wagon wheels in red and gold beat out the message of the driver's pain filled goal. Towering trees of metal carved the sky as horse and wagon entered on the flat. Full stopped, the horses bent their heads as one to honor thousands there, so cruelly lost. The heart of man can nobly prove its worth with words unspoken, painting truth with sight and sound alone: a spark of spirit, match to mind and heart, to set them both aglow.

Additional Notes:
This poem is based on my imperfect memory of a Budweiser Beer commercial I saw just once, so credit has to go to them for the inspiration. The commercial was named Respects, and I believe it was one of the best I have ever seen. There were no words spoken in the commercial.
