The Hunt

Eagle Feather and Dancing Bear hunt together in the night quietly following a beaten path, used by ancestors in past life It leads them across a reflecting pool, below the starry moonlit sky and deep into the woodlands, where thorny brush cuts like a knife Swiftly they cross a clearing,to the protection of the mighty trees and pause for just a moment,to hear the sound of a creature's cry In the darkness they have sight, just as those who become their prey then call out to the great spirits, forever soaring in the endless sky Eagle Feather raises up his wooden bow,a mighty buck is now in sight the sounds of an arrow sending echoes, until it's deep within the flesh The carcass now cleaned and dressed, to become a winters feast must be carried on a journey home, for the scent is now too fresh As they proudly walk among their people, displaying their grand skill Dancing Bear holds up his medicine pouch, giving thanks to the spirit guide On this worn path to sacred hunting grounds, many generations are to follow in the ways taught by their forfathers, whose symbols they wear with pride.
