The Worms

A man sits quietly And stares at the floor Picking his fingernails With no one else around He goes outside  When everyone is sleeping Looking at the stars  And the worms in the ground The worms They craw around the earth Eating the dirt And a worm never hated anybody And a worm never hated anyone A man sits quietly And stares at worms Watching how they eat With no one else around And a worm never hated anybody And a worm never hated anything A man crawls quietly Eating the dirt Scooping up handfuls And filling his mouth A woman stands quietly  Staring at the man He looks up And there’s dirt on her lip
