The First Time The first time, you broke through that calcified cavern where my heart had lodged with the force of a wrecking ball, leaving me exposed, clothed only in starlight. You managed to demolish the "What if?" and the "What then?" Replaced them with "Now!" "Only now!" "Right now!" We seemed such fools, dancing bare-assed under the moon, serenaded by soft pines, with a chorus of bending birches singing back-up. I have not kissed with an open mouth, or danced down summer grasses since then, and all the trees are silent. |
