Fractured Dreams

"I need to leave."        You said without blinking.         My heart stopped.        It isn't that we are good together        or that your touch still melts,         but that it once did.         "We are not friends."        You said with a frown.        My blood ran cold.        It isn't that we are,        or that you are wrong in proclaiming,        but that we never were.         "I too, want more."        I thought, but did not voice.        You looked away.        It isn't that you are not good        or kind, or did not try,         but that it wasn't enough.         "As you wish."        I whispered,         and you silently turned.        It isn't that I wanted this        or even that I'd change it,        only that it isn't what I dreamed.
