Sweet Dreams Of You

She sang songs with a voice that brought tears to your eyes Was she pointing at you when she sang about lies? Everyone in the nation was under her spell Everyone with a similar story to tell The dreams in the 50s came hard and were slow Dysfunctional home life where love couldn’t grow Responses were great and her fans remained true Each time she performed with her eyes black and blue Attractions at work made suspicions rise up Meanwhile success overflowed from her cup Singing her heart out she rose to the top Only to find that the heartaches don’t stop Forever, the struggles seemed there in her way Yesterday’s actions to pay for today On her way to a gig with close friends by her side Up on the crest of the mountain—--she died

Additional Notes:
This is as you can see, an Acrostic--title tells you what it is. The only thing not told is Who she is. So therefore, it's a riddle as well. Please feel free to comment even if you don't know the singer.
