For Dad

Because you watch thunder storms with pleasure on your breath, I am not afraid. Because you wear crinkled forehead bliss  when you twist like Chubby Checker, I know freedom. Because you have a taste for tart fruits  and molten spices, I am bold. Because you learned how to pause  in soft morning silence, I believe in serenity. Because your whole body wraps around your loud laugh,  I share my joy. Because you want to know  the dream of God,  I search for answers.  Because you cannot see the colors of things,  like river stones and rare birds, I look longer. Because you love  with a weathered sureness, I know how.
