ALONG THE BEACH

Along the beach, the empty shells Lay strewn about as though Looking for a tomorrow That will never come. I walk among them, Sand pushing between my toes; Telling me That time has no hold on me here. The ocean breeze gently blows The wisps of my curly hair, As though it longs to comb This mane into something  More in tune with the song of sea gulls. I stoop to grasp a shell That whistles with a mellow, lusty drone To the ghosts that walk the waters, And in the distance, A gull cries, circles, dives And one creature of the sea  Is no more.
