PELICAN PICNIC

Poised in petulant splendor, Feathers puffed and beaks ajar, Eyeballs glaring right at me And my intruding car. It seems I have disturbed Proud pelicans at repast, At my offending presence They truly are aghast. Not sure if I am friend or foe They sound alarm on sight, Hoping that this show of brave Will drive me off in fright. But no, I have no sense. I do not make retreat. Now a pelican discussion "Would I be good to eat?" With paparazzi lens aimed true And shutter set to fire, A preening male lands on my car The object of his desire? But do I put the camera down And show proper respect? No, I press the shutter, click. The pelican puffs out his neck. Quick I trade the camera lens For one ignition key. A living, breathing hood ornament Is causing me to flee. The engine roars, the top comes up, The bird is really pissed, He takes aim with a nature call But luckily, he missed.

Additional Notes:
And the moral of this is??? Never let Moni sit in her convertible on sunny day at a wildlife refuge, watching a bunch of dizzy birds do what dizzy birds do. This was all in fun, please take it as that. By the way, none of them got NEAR my car, I just have an overactive imagination...happy giggles all....
