She heard a fragment of the news, upon the morning show while bolting breakfast coffee at the sink. She caught the fragments of a song upon the radio while speeding on the highway’s ragged brink. And fragments of her workmate’s words throughout a frantic day did barely penetrate her frenzied mind. With schedules – deadlines, dates to keep, disputes to put away her palmtop dictates how, and when, and why. Between her cell phone’s strident bleeps, the fax’s urgent drone she tried recalling why she was alive. But fragments of her boss’s voice, his irritated tone destroyed the precious moment - lost in time. The price of her prosperity is more than she can pay no time to gain perspective why she lives. She spends it all as fragments of the American way a thousand tasks take all she has to give. Technology and power, wealth and leisure, comfort – ease are idols, each demand their sacrifice. The bleeding carcass on the altar struggles to break free as meaning dies in fragments of our lives. Be still and know there is a God, cease striving for an hour the peace of Christ to rule within her heart. To bind her scattered fragments with his life renewing pow’r The trivia has meaning, ev’ry part. Secure – a peaceful soul that knows her worth within God’s scheme investments that go with her when she dies. A person called to live for Christ, not driven to achieve has all that, in this life, can satisfy.
