Rachel, Rachel, if you please,

Rachel, Rachel, if you please,  Will you do one thing for me? Read the list, so you will know,  Those who died a year ago. Is there listed some you knew? Even one, or may be two? If not I ask you hear me through, This is what I ask of you.  Sit down and take your pen in hand, Put off what ever you have planned.  Replace each name, of honored dead, With someone dear to you instead. Start with those you love the best, Husband, children, all the rest.  Mother, father, sister dear, Anyone that you hold dear. All your family, every one. Friends and neighbors one by one. When at last you reach the end, Go and read the list again. Now, since all you love are dead, And grief now fills your empty head. Please rewrite your “Valor” poem. It offends me to the bone!
