Mrs. Preen and the Lobster

Mrs. Preen laughed her soundless laugh Her head pulled back as if on a string And her perfect teeth beamed beautiful false smiles The hyper expensive Sushi restaurant dripped dollars Black clad waiters waded among the neon booths Food origins and preparation secrets were revealed Costs were referred to as levels Wishing to establish my worth as a human I spoke about wine appellations and vintners Mrs. Preen countered with wine futures and Rothschild I offered proud comments about my wife the huntress The alabaster goddess spoke of hunting clubs and safaris I wanted to lie that I was a nuclear physicist  But feared that she had been the first to split the atom The two male Preen progeny sat stoically One a potential chess prodigy The other asked me if I was a nerd My brother held the respected position of chess coach He was gracious and let Mrs. Preen fluff her plumage Our meals arrived and so did the lobster His tail meat had been neatly excised  And was ensconced by lettuce which lay his broken back Mrs. Preen smiled and with the skill of an orchestral conductor Lifted her fork and tapped Mr. Lobster on the head And she giggled as his many appendages wriggled in response His eyestalks quivered slightly and glared at me accusingly "He's still alive!" Mrs. Preen exclaimed, "The meat is so fresh."
