The Night Before Corrections

Twas the night before Corrections and all through the tank No teens were yet sleeping, they all had done crank. The kids were locked down, four-pointed in bed, with 90 day programs dancing in heads. The mace was all hung in Control room with care, in hopes reinforcements soon would be there. Because in the rec yard there had been such a clatter, Staff looked at the cameras to see what was the matter. And what to their wondering eyes did appear, but a sled full of juveniles all drinking beer. With two little drivers so lively and quick, We knew in a moment it was Adam and Nick! Much faster than lightening when canteen's the game, They whistled and shouted and called out the names Oh Burglar! Oh Felon! Oh Car Thief and User! Oh Robber! Oh Shooter!  Oh Brother Abuser! They called through the windows and yelled through the doors, do not make your beds and do not do your chores! Now open your flaps*  and carve on the walls! Now spit in the corners and talk in the halls! Staff spoke not a word, but went straight to work, they took down the loudmouths and maced the big jerk. Then locking the handcuffs amidst great complaints, they moved to the wetcell and tightened restraints. Staff sprang to the cabinet and grabbed their reports and away they all ran to contact the courts. But I heard Staff exclaim as they left for the night, “Let’s charge them with Horseplay and Intent to Incite!” And so one more time Counselors refused to cower, plus to their timesheets added more training hours.

Additional Notes:
If you haven't guessed it yet, I work in a Juvenile Detention Center. I wrote this last Christmas just for fun, all staff got a charge out of it. We actually do have to restrain and mace sometimes, but none of the kids ever did crank in the facility! *open your flaps is a huge rule infraction. There are window flaps on the dorm room doors so we can look in and they are not allowed to touch them. This was also a dig on management becasue it was the end of the year and they were scrambling to comply with the Dept of Corrections requirements on training hours.
