By The Grace Of GODMilton RobertsonI am very cautious of critiquing religious offerings because I have posted so many myself and I know how personal and evangelical they may appear to the reader and the writer. Nonetheless, your write was very direct, well written, passionate, and to me (though it may not matter), sincerely holy. Thanks for putting this read out there, not everyone has the courage today whilst in years past it would have been expected. With the blood of the Lamb, Mark2015-10-15 21:59:58
DEATH RIDES A PALE HORSE.kevin DunnExtremely wonderful and exceptional story telling in a very well done poetic format. Such a lost art, that still is so refreshing. I would love to read and see more of this. Very delightful write and I know very difficult to accomplish. Thanks for the great post and well done entertainment. Always, my best, Mark 2015-10-15 21:48:34
A Conscious FantasyDeniMari Z.The first two lines were all that were needed to be written though the rest was very delightful. I absolutely love wordplay, though your write engenders a much greater depth. Wonderful freedom, precious truth, beautiful poetry. My best, Mark 2015-10-15 21:33:08
What Is LoveJoe GustinA very delightful rarity: an epic poem that is complete and concise. To me, something that is very hard to do. Like Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Little Wing, no wasted notes, no wasted words in your poetry. And I can't help but be reminded of The End from Abbey Road, "and in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make (showing my age). Please keep writing and showing how special life and love really are. Thanks for the post! Sunshine, on a cloudy day, Mark2015-09-30 00:18:03
As Summer ExhalesJoe GustinVery nice and loving imagery. Every fall I see the arrival of death with the hope of rebirth in the spring. I always wonder when it will be my last and I will see no more arise. Sorry for my morbid interpretation of fall into winter where dreams may become something less of hope (not quite nightmares). I appreciate your poetic optimism and expression and general view of life better loved. You know by now, Only, my best, Mark 2015-09-29 23:45:09
Nature ClassDeniMari Z.Very nicely written and an exquisitely expressed allegory (I think that is the right word) concerning a brief, though meaningful, loving encounter. It is interesting how quickly lust, which we initially perceive as love, morphs (the "plunge" against gravity and the wind) into hate, or perhaps rejection, abandonment, or discardment(?). You are right, we feel it but we never emotionally understand it. Sorry, if I took interpretive liberties but that is what is so nice about this site. Thank you for the post and the great read. Always, my most best, Mark 2015-09-27 11:20:23
The legend of All Dragon's Daykevin DunnWow! I am not worthy. I wish I had your creativity and imagination and furthermore your incredible ability to so wonderfully and eloquently place them into words that produce such exquisite epic poetry (I believe there is a correct term for this but I just can't think of it). This piece is brilliant and magnificent. I can not authorize myself to critique it but my opinion is that it is a great write. Thank you so very much for sharing it on this site and with all of us. the best I have, Mark 2015-09-27 10:53:51
In the WakeJames C. HorakGreat poetry. Especially loved "In the lull.." and "When confusion becomes...". We know far too much than what we can responsibly handle (pretty much applies to all things about mankind). Pandora's box is open and we aren't quite ready. "When will they (we) ever learn?" Wonderful post, sweet, poignant. Always, my best, Mark 2015-09-24 22:12:40
Love WaitsJoe GustinVery nice. Your poetry paints beautiful images for me (and a kinda vice versa). I feel welcomed in your poetic vision. Thanks for the post and the visit. Please keep reminding me of the beautiful and special things/moments. Thanks! Mark 2015-09-24 21:53:18
ONE BY THE NAME.kevin DunnVery wonderful. A classical poem that rhymes, is musical, and tells a worthwhile and complete story. I know or at least recognize how hard (at least for me) this is to do. A masterful allegory. Thank you greatly for posting this. Again, my best, Mark 2015-09-05 23:39:00
YouJoe GustinAbsolutely beautiful. Especially love the last stanza. I wish that I wasn't so far lost that I could still write or even feel such emotions that you so exquisitely expressed in this poetry. Nothing to add. As always, only unconditional respect, Mark2015-08-27 23:43:30
Ungracious CreationsDeniMari Z.I am not sure what the personal meaning of this is to you, but as an exceptional write it offers the reader to make their own interpretation and in some way make it their own. A true poet's gift. Nonetheless, this is incredibly strong, with passionate and intense emotional verses and words. I wish had such feeling. Thank you so much for posting. Only my best, Medard 2015-08-27 23:36:47
Do We Not PonderJames C. HorakNice post with a touch of Blake's Songs of Experience. I always appreciate pure economy to express the poem's essence versus the verbosity that I usually need. Thanks for the read. My best, Medard 2015-08-27 23:26:45
AwayJoe GustinGreat poem but even better advice. The invitation of beauty is never worth the toxicity that may accompany it. Best to keep some distance unless you are a hopeless romantic who can absorb the pain and the burn. It is your choice. Nice post and read. Thanks! Mark2015-08-26 02:09:34
Burning BabesDeniMari Z.Gorgeous. The true poverty of our soul is revealed by how we treat and look after our children. Lovely and stark imagery to accurately describe a horrid scene. Perfect ending. After so many millenniums and so many different civilizations it appears that we will never change. A very good and focused piece. Thanks, as always, Medard 2015-08-21 01:07:23
ListenDeniMari Z.You completely captured me with your opening verse and I was not let down by the rest, except that there wasn't enough (a compliment: to be able to mesmerize and capture the audience, and to know when to exit the stage, is a special poetic gift). Very nice read and very strong post. I do sleep too much, especially when I am awake. Thanks! Medard2015-08-15 01:39:38
THE QUEST.kevin DunnMagnificent narrative offering that is well versed, sentimental, appropriately cynical, appropriately redemptive, well crafted, and just enough acid and ETOH to make it delightfully inappropriate. Thanks for this very exquisite offering. It is real talent, not that I know, just that I recognize. Medard 2015-08-15 01:26:04
BullfightMark Steven Schefferrepeat: in memory of e.e. cummings. the confederate flag, like the matador, i see the horror from both sides, the bull stabbed for what (i want my mtv), the apocalyptic terror, the might makes right, the trail of tears, pol pot, the armenians, rwanda, as long as they don look like us, isis(or whatever-the-fuck), u.s. dollars and hacking, god's chosen people, always on our side. we are the guvmeant, we are definitely them. i love the matador whoever i chose him to be. a perfect post. thanks! Medard 2015-08-15 01:08:36
When A Lonely Wind CalllsJoe GustinTrue poetry, I really can't add much more. Keep it flowing, unhindered, honest, true to yourself and thus it resonates true to others--a share of yourself means so much. Nice post! Medard 2015-08-15 00:41:48
Don't You KnowJames C. HorakAgain, I love directly to the point writes. Economy of words that still are able to completely serve the message are true poetry. Something I wish I could do. Once more, thanks! Medard 2015-08-15 00:35:46
Jonny Clem Dummer Boykevin DunnLove it. Combination of poetry and history. An unassuming creek, the river of death. Rosencrans' miscalculation, Longstreet's advantage. Interestingly, Pres. Lincoln's brother-in-law, Confederate general Benjamin Helm was killed at Chickamauga and Jonny(Lincoln)Clem survived to be appointed a general in retirement. Wonderful poem! Thanks! Medard 2015-08-14 01:28:21
what is (a poet)Mark Steven SchefferPoetry as an art. Literally. Very visual. What is the secret that keep the juices flowing? Thanks for something I didn't expect (in a good way). Medard2015-08-14 00:57:58
The Wordsmith.kevin DunnWell written, clever, and delightful piece to read. I love playful, well thought out, creativity, and skillful wordplay. I know how hard it sometimes can be(at least for me) and I greatly appreciate it when I see it. Thanks for the share. Medard2015-08-14 00:50:26
We Have MomentsJames C. HorakSuccinct but complete, as my review. I love brevity when it is well done. Well done. Thanks for the post and the read. Medard 2015-08-14 00:20:53
THE ALTERNATIVE THEORY.kevin DunnGreat title and a wonderful whims(y)ical write. I always knew we were gently massaged into this world we claim. Almost like the comfortable beings of middle management that D. Adams wrote about in Hitchhiker's. Delightful post and read. 2015-08-13 00:32:36
Requiem for TokiMark Andrew HislopWonderful write and subject. It is very moving and I am so sorry for your loss. I also love the interrupted rhythm (I'm not sure if that is a valid literary description)with the rhyming. Well and thoughtfully crafted. Thanks for the post. Medard2015-06-05 22:46:11
Ancient ResponsesMark Steven SchefferThe kids are alright or is it "all right"? I guess it depends on when you were born and what influences circle your point (there are no lines in the sand)and what movie you are watching. Keith Moon, many moons ago dead, is telling me about life. Now that is funny. The Odes, which I wonder if he was ever aware of, are claiming to be heard once more. Your writing, my friend, is more relevant to me than Horace's or even Cicero's. Great post, much more than I deserve to try to comprehend and certainly not to critique. Medard 2015-05-29 01:18:16
The OmenJames C. HorakSuccinct. Well put. To the point. It is a gift to be able to get the message through and complete with an economy of words. Something I have never mastered. Thanks for the post and additional note. Medard 2015-05-29 00:54:28
A Bumblebee at the GardenMark Steven SchefferVery nice. Especially relevant to us (not you intended) metaphors. I am both inside and outside the wildlife mesh. Preserving the honey, the strawberries, and lettuce, even maybe some subterranean carrots from cute whining bears, Bambi's ne'er-do-well friends, and rascally wabbits. You are absolutely correct we don't know the hand that feeds and would probably bite it anyway just for the flavor of the meat. Thanks, again! Another fantastic read. Medard 2015-05-28 00:57:45
Edgewood, 1974Mark Steven SchefferWonderful post and sensual visage. I believed I willingly spent some quality time there. Jim says "hello" and the lizard king is now a deity. In my hometown, it was a country club but still decorated by the pigeons and mentioned reverently somewhere in The Gospels. Another great write. Thanks! Medard2015-05-28 00:42:37
Two ReligionsMark Steven SchefferThis made my night, I am still laughing from sheer joy. God, I miss pure, true, original art. And this included one of my favorite subjects in the juxtapositions of religions with plumbing and a touch of Dylan Thomas ("dumb", the force that through the green fuse etc...) and even one of my cats is rubbing up against me (my left hand typing). Great write, post, and many thanks. I needed this. Medard I intend to read your other posts but I have to get up early to get estimates on garage doors replacement (back to the mundane). 2015-05-21 02:08:51
While Having a BeerJoe GustinVery nice. I feel and then I see that I am there. The best I can say, I identify. I have gone for a walk and I never stop dreaming and never stop making my cast. Beautiful post! 2015-05-08 01:45:00
Suitor Seeking JusticeJames C. HorakAt least from my standpoint, very astutely written. From my concrete experience in medicine it was always a tragic mistake to equate an individual's physical or emotional pain with someone else's or your own or some group's diagnoses. Sympathetically and empathetically you would fail miserably, if at least you cared. I realize you are alluding to a broader subject but this is my joy of being a reader/interpreter and your gift as a writer. And from the second stanza, illnesses/diseases are recognized or unrecognized depending on scientific studies or the biases/structures of the treating. Many auto-immune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, psoriasis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, asthma), diabetes, fibromyalgia, psychiatric diseases, and multiple others were at first thought to be psychosomatic and the fault of the patient. Historically, medicine, if it couldn't explain a disease/illness/syndrome or treat it, its first response was usually to blame the patient or individual for its own ignorance and even its inability of compassion. Unfortunately, to some degree it is still going on today. And on the other extreme as I may be inappropriately assuming from you, there are new treatments and pills(for anything and everything) coming out everyday, maybe for some things that need nothing more than common sense, or for a liability lawyer's new BMW or beach house. Your last verse, to me, poignantly includes it all, "Disease created out of loss that can't be shared with any upper crust, Who have scientifically concluded any intensity to be terrorist". Pretty well equally spills/spells it out. Thanks, for sharing and thanks (if you will) for letting me indulge myself. Mark2015-01-16 02:43:35
Anger and RageMarcia L McCaslinVery powerful (hopefully not to or for you) for me to subjectively comment, but this was superbly and passionately written, close to perfect if I was on the outside looking in (which is probably what I should be doing). Again, something that I cannot personally imagine or comprehend (but definitely know), extremely well versed (wording), perfect feeling/timing/rhythm to express the emotion(I don't know what it's called), very powerful(again) and dynamic delivery. If it is of you great to identify. If it is of you, even greater to overcome. So compelling, I really don't know what to say, except the obvious, well written, perfect post. Thanks for such a share, Mark 2015-01-16 01:47:39
Right nowJoe GustinI think I get it but of course any submitted writing, especially poetry is subject to almost any interpretation. Je suis Charlie. The freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the freedom of writing, and the freedom of thought are the most important freedoms mankind has ever had even if I or we do not agree with all that is expressed. That is the absolute beauty of it, it is both from God and from humanity. It allows us to come together and agree and it allows us to separate and disagree, but prayfully in peaceful and civilized ways (if possible). 2015-01-16 01:19:51
What IsJoe GustinI like to be able to write versed and long poems and poetry especially if they have some point otherwise they are balderdash. What I really love are statements, preferably poetic, and of course, of and by, the writer's and reader's definition/discretion, that are succinctly to the point and complete. At least from my standpoint this is such. Well written, to the point, and complete. Thanks for posting, Mark2015-01-16 01:07:20
A Love StoryMarcia L McCaslinMy first instinct was to modernize this story but it was and wasn't necessary--it is universally about life, whenever, whatever, though easily applicable to our own history. Straightforward, beautiful, perfect love, the requisite tragedy, the redeemable loving imagery, life's and God's redemption of man and woman and family and community, perfectly written, completely spoken, from such a beginning to such an end. Wonderfully and in such picturesque words spoken (and, I apologize, for some reason, I thought of the same sweetness of "Back to the Future III"). Something too lovely for someone like me to create or imagine. Thank you for sharing your splendid imagination. Sorry for the imagery redundancy, just couldn't come up with better words. Sans Thesaurus. Thanks for posting. Mark 2015-01-16 00:54:32
The Anatomy Of LustJoe GustinAbsolutely beautiful. I am very jealous of anyone one who can still feel, show/express/demonstrate true , initial (hopefully sustainable, real love), or lust. Now, I only know predictable and constant love and only that which is without much passion (I accept my own responsibilities), only representative of safety and sameness. I recognize what base biological urges are and were, and the initial emotional surges and feelings of being in love that are not just primal but something noble, though I have cynically morphed into the cognizant security of an old person's version of love. And maybe, as much as I would not like to admit, that is my reality of love and life. I am very happy that you are able to write this honest and lovely piece. Thanks, for letting me read it and remember and for allowing me to still dream. Medard 2014-11-30 03:14:36
Laurel Canyon RhapsodyJames C. HorakGreat write, very vivid. Unfortunately, I remember the event and those times all too real. "Where nothing makes sense or rhyme when death and murder seem all the time". I don't know when you wrote this and to me it doesn't even matter. Only our relative distant to other stars have passed and our infernal speed through the ether. In other words, everything is still the same. Take away the name and locations and this is now and probably forever, for what my opinion is worth. I feel so sad and lonely that we and I have not really progressed at all. But maybe this really represents an absolute truth, we are who we were and we cannot evolve beyond our most despicable moments nor beyond our brightest. Basically, I'm just getting too old, there are new thoughts to be thought, I just no longer am capable of thinking of them. Thanks! Very great write. I always appreciate history in the present. Medard 2014-11-30 02:40:52
Within the PoemThomas H. SmihulaAbsolutely great. I don't mean to transfer my thoughts onto you, but all of my poems are written for me and rarely to any particular or general audience. I am very selfish though. I do greatly appreciate it when someone sees more in me than I do, or than what I truly know exists. My narcissism...not meant to be projected on you or anyone else. But it does reflect what I perceive is the truth and the power of what you have written. Outside of myself (if that is possible), your writing is a very accurate "expression" of what poetry is and as you so precisely and exquisitely wrote, "If an answer is given Then the question will Be Within the Poem" Perfect! Medard 2014-11-28 19:22:25
LossJoe GustinDark, colors beyond black. This writing is definitely something I identify with. Short, simple, complete. Much more could be added but nothing more needs to be added. Greatly to my liking and appreciation for whatever that is worth. Pearl Jam, "Black", more succinctly presented, but quieter, and just as poignant. Thanks, for the post! Medard 2014-11-22 23:36:24
Dog DreamingMark Steven SchefferI am sure that it is just by chance that I had to trim the dead branches of the rhododendron next to my porch and that I gave my eldest son my Joe DiMaggio signed baseball both today and that all of my dogs have been bitches (or as I prefer, females). Stayed away from Ezekiel 1:15-16 (didn't relate to that today). My dog, Crissie is an Alpha female, not an Alpha male. She is a Border Collie, which probably makes her even more alpha. She is 11 years old and still pees (marks her territory) over where the male dogs do and she is brilliant (for a dog). I only have had female dogs. I think this definitely says more about me than them. No weird thing going on here other than I have always preferred the disposition of female dogs. The only thing subject to critique(mine, not yours) is that I have always loved and been fascinated by women, but I (as usual, state in these moments), digress. "A little lower than human", am I sensing a pattern? No, I don't think so. This is just a poetic and observational writing about a good, simple dog who deservingly gets his bone and despite our projections is completely unaware of his majesty and divinity. In other words, loved this writing, love dogs, and thanks for the post! Too many levels to respond to, only the one I had the most fun with! Again, thank you! Medard 2014-11-21 02:10:36
Circe's IslandMark Steven SchefferI do not want to be human anymore. Something I distantly can relate to since I outcast myself so long ago, just playing, ever a part of the constant as ever. Circe the goddess of magic I believe. A magical writing. Something I greatly appreciate and admire(your writing that is), I am too concrete and pedestrian to actually believe in magic and I have always felt that anything supernatural would thus never waste its time on me. Nonetheless, I greatly appreciate your artistry as something between Mozart and Tool, meaning, at least to me, this was wonderfully and expertly crafted for everyone and anyone as long as they take the time to think about it. If they don't then it really doesn't matter, their jar is empty. Well written, thankfully posted. Medard 2014-11-21 00:52:13
Tulip BulbsMarcia L McCaslinAbsolutely gorgeous, it mesmerized me and kept me in a trance. I don't know anything about technique but this writing was perfect to me. Thank you for such a beautiful effort and for posting it. Medard2014-11-21 00:24:51
The OarsmanMark Steven SchefferOr carry through into his hands, whether or not he perceives them. Sorry, my pedestrian attempt to further your poem, though it needed none. Simply, I like this poem, because it is simple, easily understandable, yet sophisticatedly composed to appeal to anyone. Very well done. Mark or Medard 2014-11-18 02:44:32
November PeaMarcia L McCaslinWonderful and beautiful. A style that I can relate to. No technique comments, because I do not know technique. I just know that I liked this writing and being mostly scientifically trained with the wonder of creation, I greatly admire your presentation. Thanks! Medard2014-11-15 06:28:14
My BibleMark Steven SchefferI absolutely loved it. Classical, religious, and modern themes presented in a post new-wave, post avant-garde style (hell I can't even accurately describe it), that is so refreshing and so intelligent. Purely, a delight to read. Better than anything on Netflix. Positively Brilliant! 2014-11-15 06:03:07
Pumpkin PieEllen K LewisI'm not a big fan of pumpkin pies unless there is enough whipped cream. I don't care for sweets but your poem engenders sweet imagery and I enjoyed it. Always trying to smile, Medard 2012-11-04 15:37:17
A Child of Goldcheyenne smythClassic! Well written and well rhymed. Merry Christmas, Medard2010-12-15 03:20:23
Thankful Days WalkDeniMari Z.Beautiful. Hopeful. I cannot critque others writings, I only know what I like and what I don't. Damn good reasons. Well done! in His Name, Medard2010-12-08 03:24:20
