Sheila B Roark's Profile:
I was born and raised in New York City where I modeled and acted professionally for
twenty-two years. I attended Notre Dame School for Girls for twelve years where I
received a college prep education. I moved to Texas fourteen years ago to marry my
husband, Gail, who is a Systems Engineer. I am the proud mother of three grown
daughters and a beautiful granddaughter who is going to be three on November 3rd.
I was always interested in writing but didn’t start working on my poetry until I
was in my thirties. I have been writing for over twenty years, and enjoy every minute of
it. My works have appeared in over six hundred anthologies and six hundred fifty literary
magazines. Such diverse publishers as: MacFadden Publications, Voyager Publishing,
“Homespring Press”, “House of White Birches” and “Twilight Ending” have published
my poems. I have also received numerous awards from DDDD Publications,
“Homespring Press”, Poets of the Vineyard, “The Sunday Suitor”, “Castalian Springs”
and “Se La Vie Writers Journal” and “Goodin Communications” to name a few.
Even though writing is my first love, there are also other activities I enjoy. I am a
bibliophile who reads five books a week, I dabble in French cooking, love to travel and
am involved with bowling on a competitive level.
To me writing is the perfect way to give of myself to others. By sharing my
innermost thoughts, hopes, and dreams through my poems and stories, I am
communicating with the world. I think words are magic that’s why I always say, “Words
say so much.”
I started writing poetry as a therapy to get me through a bad marriage. After
accumulating a number of poems, I started submitting them to different magazines and
when my first poem was accepted for publication, I was on my way to becoming the
professional writer I am today.
Since I am a communicator by nature, I find that writing poetry and short stories
enables me to share my thoughts, feelings and emotions with the world. I also enjoy
seeing my work in print and winning the awards I do because it points out to me that
others enjoy reading what I write. Writing has become one of the focal points of my life
driven by an inner need. In conclusion, writing makes my life complete and is my life
line when things get too hard to bear. To know me is to know that I am a writer.
