I am twenty four years old and live in Honolulu, HI. I am an undergraduate at the University of Hawaii, about to graduate this May. I grew up in Oregon, and spent summers in college working for a research station in Oregon and California. I have logged many days of hiking and just being outside or away from civilization, which I consider to be an essential part of life.
I also speak and write in Spanish, and have travelled through Central America, Mexico, Spain. Favorite country is Guatemala. I am studying hispanic poetry this semester, Spanish is the poets' language. I read poems in both languages and marvel at the differences in nuance and fluidity. Neruda, Rosalia de Castro, Rosario Castellanos are some favorites. This class prompted me to bring my poetry to this website. My poetry almost always incorporates and integrates the souls response to place. It is the poetic essence of the world itself that inspires me, and what I wish most to share. Read 'rima V' by Becquer about poetry as a bridge between the physical entity and the intangible aspects of the human spirit. He says it better than I can....
