Hi all, For the record, I anxiously checked the winners' list after it was posted on June 7th - several hours after the results were tallied as I had gone to bed at midnight AST - and was surprised to note that there were no monetary or submission credits given to the winners - all read '0'! Since I had a poem in the Top 6 and a first-place critiquer finish, I suppose I could have been upset but I just shrugged and figured there had been a glitch somewhere, computers being predictably unpredictable. This is one poetry site that I trust absolutely, for its integrity, fairness and openness. So I tend not to worry about whatever problems arise, as I have faith that they'll be resolved as soon as Chris can untangle them. He works extremely hard to do this for us. We, the poets and critiquers, also make a lot of effort to keep it going well. But it's a two-way street requiring patience, tolerance and a certain amount of willingness to focus on what's important here. This isn't a scam site, nor are we inflated by false praise and empty promises. This is 100% for real. The winners do get paid, faithfully, by checks that don't bounce. All of us enrich each other in so many ways. I have to say, however, that if more people don't start submitting more critiques, we may have trouble functioning smoothly. Critiquers are the backbone of the site on which the poetic flesh is overlain. Without crits in sufficient numbers, nobody's poem is going to win because there won't be enough valid scores on which to base an assessment. If you feel intimidated by the thought of critiquing, just do your best and rest assured that everyone else had to start somewhere. If you aren't sure you can manage to discuss a specific poem, choose the button that allows you not to critique it, and move on to something to which you feel comfortable responding. I firmly believe that we have an obligation to critique at least twice as many poems as we submit. If we decide to flood the site with our work and never, ever post even a single comment on anyone else's, then what are we really giving? Those of us who tend to end up high on the critiquer ratings are paying our dues in spades right now; it takes hours upon hours to write what we do. Those terrific poems just keep on coming, and time is so limited when spread out in only a few directions. Please, join us! Don't be shy; I welcome comments from newcomers on my own work just as much as I do those by the 'pros'. We aren't writing just to appeal to a panel of experts. We write for everyone. Bless you all and I look forward to having you read my work, and to seeing yours as well! Brenda Tate

Comment Date: 6/19/2001 12:19pmHi to all! I am Kelly Evans, a PL member who can be dated back to the link's origin as well as being a faithful member that has stood the test of time - I'm still here! First off, I would like to congratulate Chris for The Poetic Link's obvious successfulness which goes without mentioning his dedication to hard work and time spent not only in maintaining this site, but for its expanse whereas improvements pampering its members are as much a constant as the dawning of day... Hats Off To Ya, Chris! Secondly, Last month when the 7th arrived as usual at 11:00 p.m. my time, I quickly logged unto the Poetic Link to (what?) excitedly view its May winners. Once on the link's winner's page, I viewed its top listed poets and critics, however, much to my confusion neither cash or poem credits beside these names were listed. Although this site failure, if you wish to call it such, was noted, it went without complaint to Chris as I knew this situation had a reason as well a solution which I knew would soon be posted to rectify its current status,,,that's just the way Chris operates - "johnny on the spot" - he has so much too do, why further his duties with constant bickering? Chin-up, Chris, U R the man! I hope this attestment clarifies any misunderstanding other members may have. Much love and friendship, Kelly Evans

Comment Date: 6/19/2001 10:38amI, too, wanted to attest to the fact that indeed, there were no monetary listings next to the names of the May winners. I think Chris operates a most honorable site here at TPL, and this was just an honest mistake. Annie

Comment Date: 6/19/2001 9:23amHi Fellow PTL members I just finished reading Chris's latest letter about last months critiquer and poem standings. I did check the winner list and indeed there were no prizes listed. After checking a few days, the winners and prizes were both listed. Chris does an incredible job maintaining this site for all of us and at no time have I ever felt anything was less than professional. I hope this is one of many letters attesting to last months winners and prize listings. Best of luck to all as the time for June winners approaches.

Comment Date: 6/9/2001 2:44pmHello everyone, I just want to take a moment to remind all of us how important is to keep the poetic juices flowing and to maintain the smooth working of the system by replying to critiques. Just as a reader honors the posting with a critique, the writer honors the reader by a corresponding comment. The dialogue is a wonderful learning opportunity, and it ought to be done in a timely manner to support the fairness of the point system. I'm still waiting for aproximately 20 replies.

Comment Date: 6/8/2001 9:07pmCongratulations to all the critiquers and the fine poets! I find the work this month to be the best! I am honored to read these poets! They are truly deserving of their awards and I look forward to the continued competition. It obviously brings both the accomplished and the aspiring poets into our homes and gives them a venue to test their work. Congratulations all! Sharon

Comment Date: 6/5/2001 2:36pmI really am happy that I have come across such a wonderful poetry site. In the art-form of poetry, having a community of poets that can interact and read other poets work is extremely important. This way poetry can evolve in new directions and modern experiments in poetry may be born like: Dada, Surrealism, and Beat poetry of past. Thank God for The Poetic Link. Timothy Canezaro

Comment Date: 5/22/2001 11:21amI'm simply astounded by my experience on The Poetic Link. I've seen nothing on the Internet, nor indeed, in the world like it. The poets and the critiques I've encountered so far here are quite awe-inspring. I believe that this site is the Future happening in the Now.
