Hello everyone, I wanted to release this last newsletter before we migrate to the new server with our web host. This server migration will place The Poetic Link on its own new "dedicated" server. The performance we get out of this move should be very nice. Up-time and reliability should improve greatly. The migration is going to cause several days of "down-time" where you may have difficulty reaching, or not be able to reach The Poetic Link at all. This can not be helped so the best I can say is that I'll try to keep the move as short as possible. Please do not panic. Also, please let others know that we are migrating to the new server and that there will be an interruption in TPL's service. This migration comes with our yearly renewal of service. The fee is 324.00 per year and is due this time each year. I have received a few donations toward our renewal fee so I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who donated toward the cause. We could still use a few more donations or Submission Credit purchases to push us over the top, so if you can help out, please do so. If everyone bought just a few credits or made a small $10.00 donation, we would have more than enough. -I guess it all comes down to how much value you place on the services that TPL offers. I will be disabling the database and forum during the move, so do not be alarmed! Service will be restored once the migration is complete. You should not need to change anything on your end. -So let's hope for a smooth migration :) Here are some links you may want to use: Donations: http://ThePoeticLink.com/sales/donations Anthology & T-Shirt Purchases: http://ThePoeticLink.com/sales Submission Credit Purchases: http://ThePoeticLink.com/pl/buy_credits.php3 Thank You, -Chris

Hi guys, I am writing to give you another status update. I am not sure what was wrong with last weeks Newsletter but I believe I have identified all of the possible problems and fixed them. I hope this one reaches all of you who subscribe to the newsletter. Last week, I reported that we needed to pay for another year of Web Hosting services. That bill is $324.00 and must be paid every year, if we are to continue with our current web services. Since the newsletter last week, we have received 2 donations for funds -so thank you very much to those 2 who donated. We also received a few more submission credit purchases. Thank you to those people as well! The money received was only about $50.00 worth. So we are still in need of about $280.00. -I'm not trying to scare anyone, since I know we can pull the money together. I am just trying to give you the facts, so that we can continue to grow and write together. As I stated in the last newsletter, things are finally beginning to pick up around here. We are getting more and more activity each week, new writers are coming to The Poetic Link, and many wonderful people are joining us because there is no other site quite like this one. You guys make this place into something amazing and you should all be commended for your work here. I'll keep this short, as I have a lot of things to do yet today. -I just wanted you to all know that we have only got a few more days before that bill is due. Please buy some submission credits or donate some money to the cause. Your support is greatly appreciated. Some links you may want or need: Donations: http://ThePoeticLink.com/sales/donations Anthology & T-Shirt Purchases: http://ThePoeticLink.com/sales Submission Credit Purchases: http://ThePoeticLink.com/pl/buy_credits.php3 Thank You, -Chris

Hey Guys, Several days back I sent a newsletter, but it only reached about 10% of you. The server did not finish the SEND Newsletter job properly. I apologize if you get this twice now, but it is important that I resend this newsletter since we need to renew our Web Host Registration before March 11th. That renewal is going to cost $324 so please read below to see the state of things on The Poetic Link. ------------ Newsletter from a few days ago follows --------------- I wanted to drop you a short line to just let everyone know the current state of things here at The Poetic Link. We seem to be doing very well considering my severe lack of time. I have been so busy with work lately that I have little time for anything so I am trying to spend all of my spare time with my family. I have been working on my energy projects a tiny bit -Let me stress tiny there :) -And I have been doing my best to keep up with any TPL problems or questions. I just don't have time for the forum or heavy interaction with the site, with all that is going on in my life lately. We have about 200.00 in the account which is not so good, but business seems to be slowly picking up. If you can help by spreading the word and buying yourself some credits, that would be great. In March we are going to have another 324.00 bill from our web host. For those of you who remember last year, we collected donations to help pay for this charge. Believe it or not, that time is upon us again. All in all, things are going well. We need to kick fundraising into high gear this next month, so please spread the word. As long as we keep the finances here in the "black" I will do everything that I can to keep TPL running and functioning. I also still maintain a strong hope that someday soon, things will work out in one way or another for me. My dream is that I finally have the time to invest heavy efforts once more into TPL as well as my OUPower.com site. Both are very dear to me, as all of you are. -You are the reason TPL is still alive and kicking here after 4 years! -Yes 4 years, can you believe it!?!?!?!?! Thank you all for your wonderful work here. I'll do what I can from my end, and I'll just let you guys do your end of things! Oh one more thing. I have put the most precious picture of my little girl on my OUPower.com site. I think it perfectly states the entire purpose of the site ...to make a better world for our children. If you're interested in seeing this picture, please visit http://OUPower.com and scroll down a bit. You'll see what I mean about it being so precious... at least I think it is. I would love to submit it to a science journal or magazine, but I'm not sure which to contact. Any suggestions you guys have, let me know :) Some links you may want or need: Donations: http://ThePoeticLink.com/sales/donations Anthology & T-Shirt Purchases: http://ThePoeticLink.com/sales Submission Credit Purchases: http://ThePoeticLink.com/pl/buy_credits.php3 -Chris

Hi Guys, Happy Holidays! I have 2 quick things to mention. First I was contacted by Poetry.com demanding that I remove the copyrighted material from my site. What a laugh. They had to send a lawyer after me, rather than fixing the reason for my SCAM awareness link. -Oh well, I have ZERO funds and no resources with which to fight in court, so I did the only thing I could. The link is now gone ...I'm sorry. :( Second thing of note. TPL is getting so low on funds that I may have to remove the cash prizes entirely. Right now as of 12/27/2002, I have had to change the poetry awards to all Credit prizes. I left the critiquer prize as $50.00 to finish out this month, but it may need to change for January. As I said before, removing the Cash prizes will not spell the end, only a necessary step to the preservation of TPL. I have some ideas about changing things to really open the site up ...perhaps with free submissions and then we'd survive on Donations ONLY. As long as we brought in about $150.00 in donations each month, I could keep TPL running. It is a thought so reply to me if you think it might work to have free submissions and then a donation link to keep TPL alive. I'm not sure what I'd give as prizes if I did that though? -Thoughts anyone? Merry Christmas & Happy New Year! -Chris

Hello everyone, I wanted to wish you all a very Happy Holiday Season! I know that things have been down a bit with The Poetic Link, and that is entirely my fault. I have not had the time to dedicate to TPL over the past year and everything here is suffering for it. I never meant to start something I could not maintain but I seem to be burning out lately. My full time job is requiring 9 hour days now and weekend work (2 days per month) in addition to the 3 hours I spend in my car each day driving to and from work. -But that is not your problem... only my attempt at explaining some of the problem at present. I have to reduce the prizes that will be given on December 7th due to very limited funds in TPL's account. As of right now we have about $250 - $300 ...somewhere in there. I will keep things going as long as I can afford to do so. The October prizes were sent out today. I apologize for the delay there, my wife usually sends them out, but we ran out of the "Cloud Paper" and she thought that was necessary for the awards :) They came out on plain paper just fine! I stated on the forum that if I had the money to Incorperate TPL and hire some people under me, that I would do it in a heartbeat. This place would easily pay all of its bills and the salaries of the people running it. If those people were able to dedicate even just a few hours each day to the project, the funds would continue to grow exponentially along with the membership. But a live database needs to be managed and that takes time. The trouble is, I can not afford that time right now, nor can I afford to pay others to do it. The best solution would be a business loan from a private investor. One who would not expect returns to start until 12 - 18 months out. It would take that long to build things back up. I could run TPL no problem if I could do it full time, but that reality seems to be impossible. I also can not risk taking a bank loan for the 1 year or so that it would take to do TPL full time and build membership back up. So unless some of you have a good solution I will keep looking for an answer. If one of you knows a rich poet who would be sympathetic to a pure and honest cause such as this, let me know! :) I know there are grants, but I have neither the time nor the energy to dedicate to chasing one down and all of the paperwork involved. My life is crazy enough at this time. Bottom line is this guys. Don't give up hope. TPL is approaching a time when I may have to scale things down greatly, but it should not disappear. I will consolidate things as best I can to keep it going, but I have given about all I can to this little dream that I started back in 1997. The horrible part of the matter is that it appears to be a damn good dream. -One that almost took off (it even hopped a few times) but luck was not on our side just yet. Perhaps something none of us expect, will happen soon and TPL will be free to grow and flourish once again. I guess it hurts me so badly because we were so very close. The idea was solid, the programming was largely done (yes I had a lot more I wanted to enhance and give you), and the user base was established. All we lacked was MY TIME! That was all that we were ever lacking from day 1. I was using borrowed time to run TPL and the "piper" caught up to me and made me pay. Unfortunately, you have all had to pay as well. So Time has become our enemy, or rather, my lack thereof. Money for TPL is not a problem, bills are minimal. But money for my family is not something I can ignore. I have to keep my family safe and healthy. I never wanted to be rich, but as I said in the beginning (if any of you original members are still here), I would like to be able to do TPL full time and support my family with it. -That has obviously not yet happened. -Will it ...perhaps someday, but I'll need some help from a source I do not see at this time. So if you know of something I don't know. If you have resources at your disposal and care to invest in a truly pure cause, then perhaps we can do something. But for now I will have to struggle on as I have been. -Life is a struggle... we often forget that fact. If everything were easy, what fun would life be? Thank You, -Chris

Hi guys I just got a really nice voice mail this evening from someone named Annie. She didn't leave a name or number so I can not contact her to thank her, but oh well :) At any rate she commented on the Poetry Scam page that I have and found it very "memorable." I hope it has helped many people over the years, and some day I may get around to scanning the other 6 or so poems that I have received "Award Letters" on as well. I don't want to make this long, but I am going to let you know that finances have been slipping for the past 3 months and this past month terribly. I can only keep things running here if we have money coming in with which to pay the bills. I don't have a lot of bills for TPL but it is several hundred each month including prizes. I don't want to reduce them because I fear it will dry up all of the action here. So I am merely asking for some help in spreading the word and perhaps helping to drive some submission credit purchases. We could use the boost in finances and it will help to ensure that things keep running here at home base. I will be in touch but have a TON of stuff going on in my life right now so it is not that I'm ignoring anyone if you write, just that I am very busy. I love you all and wish you a wonderful Holiday Season :) -Don't eat too much turkey! Please keep TPL in your thoughts as you begin to feel that "giving" spirit :) We don't need a lot of help here, but we do need some love! -Chris

Hello everyone. I received a very kind letter this evening from a very good friend and thought that I would do her the courtesy of acknowledging her small request :) I am alive. I am still kicking and The Poetic Link seems to be doing wonderfully despite my absense. I am not really gone, just taking a much needed break. I still handle problems and in fact just tonight wrote some new code to hopefully fix that darn counter resetting :) -We shall see! At any rate, I needed to step back from TPL to give myself a break. I needed to put some energies into some very important other things. Don't get me wrong... TPL is still very important to me. I just decided that if it was as good as I hope it was, that it would survive on its own. It has been doing nicely these past 3 months, with little to no input from me. The Award checks for September will be in the mail tomorrow, so rest assured that those are still coming out as always. I want you guys to know that I appreciate all that you have done and all that you do for each other here. It is a wonderful little community we have here and I will never be able to replace that. -I simply needed some time away from it :) I don't know how many of you know this about me but I am an inventor to my very core. I invent lots of things that will probably never go anywhere and then sometimes I invent things that have a little potential. TPL was born of this inventive energy :) -Why am I telling you this? Because it is part of the explanation of where I have been for the past 3 months :) Yes I have been at it again... inventing. Actually, this is an entire story in itself, but since you're here ...go grab some hot chocolate and get ready for several hours of entertainment ...if you dare. I promise the newsletter won't be 3 hours, just the optional thing at the end that you can do ...that will take you a long time :) So the short story or lead in is this: About 4 years back I started reading everything I could get my hands on concerning new energy technologies. I read a lot about cold fusion and utilizing hydrogen to free our world from the clutches of the "Big Oil Industries." The more I read, the more I wanted to be a part of it. But alas, the materials were extremely hard to find, and the money needed was far more than I could afford on my little budget. So one day I came across a book about "Perpetual Motion." -Being someone who laughs at impossible things... I immediately dug into the book with a ferocious apetite and ideas spinning wildly. I constructed myself a small work area in my basement and began to play with ideas. You see, this was something I could afford. This was something that I did not need a special degree for, nor did I need large amounts of money. The primary materials for this type of experimentation, were wood and common items found at the hardware store. I played with many designs, I even used my LEGOS to build many things that would quickly test ideas. By the way if ANY of you have LEGOS or access to them and care to donate them to the cause... I would be most appreciative. I am mainly needing the "Expert Builder Series" as they have gears and axles and more intriquite pieces, beyond the basic blocks people think of when they hear the word LEGOS. My address is 4066 Green Park Drive, Mount Joy, PA 17552 :) Anyway, many designs later I started to hit brick walls, because after all, this was supposed to be impossible. So somehow I started getting involved in reading other material about free energy and I came across information on building "Brushless DC Pulse Motors" ...these are some very cool items, let me tell you. It opened up a whole new world to me. I began buying everything I could afford for building them. I bought wire, transistors, capacitors, resistors, solid state relays... you name it, I was probably buying it. I loved the idea of building my own motors and in building them, I was learning something I never learned in high school. I was learning about electronics and electrical engineering. I was learning physics and electro-magnetics. I was learning about EMF, Back EMF, Motive Forces and Lenze Laws. I was learning about Tesla and the amazing things that he did. I was rediscovering how wonderful it was to learn :) In the meantime we moved and I had a bit more room for a shop now. I began to carve out a little area for myself and I was liking it very much. Now came the realization that I was loosing tons of research to time. I was learning but not documenting anything. I decided I needed a way to document all of my information. So to this problem, I applied the solution of buying another domain name: OUPower.com ...It stands for Over Unity Power Research. Over Unity means getting more out of a system then you put into it. Hence, free energy :) It was at this time that I decided if I ever discovered anything that could help humanity, I would give it away freely and immediately. If I had learned anything in all of my research, it was that over the decades, hundreds of wonderful inventions and technologies have been lost to the government or Big Oil Industry for one reason or another. I therefore decided that if I were ever to stumble upon something that truly worked, it would be released to the public immediately and freely. I would include full plans to allow everyone to reproduce it so that the technology would not be lost or destroyed. I resolved that it was time to start paying "Mother Earth" back for our use of her, rather than our own pockets. So 4 years later here I am. I decided in the last 3 months that it was time to get serious about documenting my work. I created another program. No it is not nearly as big as TPL but it is super effecient and compact. Basically it was a way for me to quickly go from my digital camera to all of you out there. This program I also, give away freely and it is on my OUPower.com site if you are interested in using it for your own reasons. The program does everything for you. All you need is a web host that supports PHP and you are set. Just upload your pictures and add the text (if you wish) to the text file in each of your project directories. That's it. Nothing more. So for the past 3 months I have been busy documenting and working on my site http://OUPower.com I have been upgrading it and adding content. I have been getting into some other projects, all of which are documented there, and I have been trying to enjoy myself. So guys, you wanted to know... now you know. I have been off with another girl so to speak :) I have been off with another love of mine and I may not be back for a little while yet. Please do not worry, I will not abandon TPL. I could never do that. I just hope you can understand that this is something I must do. It is part of me and it is (believe it or not) part of TPL. -Because remember, TPL was born of my inventive nature. So please feel free to drop by and check out my new "Girl" she's up and running and growing every week. If you want to try the new program for your own site. I would love to hear how it worked for you. So far no one has e-mailed me saying that they have used it. The program that I created is called "Project Master" as it will basically document your projects for you. :) -Simple and sweet! I hope that you are not angry with me. I would never do anything to hurt you guys, my family. I just needed some space to find that inventive part of myself again ...I needed some space to, you guessed it; INVENT again! Have a wonderful evening everyone. I apologize for the long newsletter, but hell, if you read this far, it was only because you cared :) For that, I thank you! -Chris

Hello everyone, I wanted to give you a quick update on the state of things. TPL currently has about $700.00 in its account. The June Awards are going out with tomorrow's mail so that total is reflecting outstanding checks that have not yet cleared. Two newsetters back, I requested some help with editing Anthologies. I would like to thank all of you who volunteered your time and responded to me. When I told my wife about it, she was a bit hurt, since she edited the last 3 Anthologies for me. Based upon that as well as the fact that it is much easier to keep things here locally I decided to have her do them again. It would have probably been a nightmare helping the volunteers to install fonts that they may not have had, explaining how to format things and worrying about different versions of Microsoft Word. All in all, it would have probably been about equal work to just doing them here. The difference is that the work would have been in different areas this time. So again, thank you to those who volunteered. We had about 10 people step forward and offer their services. To you all, I am grateful for the offer. Now regarding this business of the updates that we were discussing on the forum last week. I am still considering a number of options, but have not made any changes at this point. I would very much like to thank you all for your ideas and the many discussions we had on improving and upgrading things here. I am concerned with the finances this month ...being as low as they are, we need to do something soon. Please try to spread the word to friends and family. If you have been on the sidelines at TPL for a while now, it would be a great time to buy some credits and submit some of your work. For now, everything but the finances are running smoothly. I am looking intently at several changes and upgrades that I plan on making in the near future. I hope everyone is having a great summer. It's HOT AS HELL here in south-east PA... but it should be cooling off soon. Thank You, -Chris

I originally posted this ONLY to the forum but decided to post it to the newsletter as it holds some very important information about upcoming changes that I am probably going to make very soon. Please read this whole message if you care to learn about what those changes might be on TPL. ----------------------------------------------- It amazes me how things come full circle. I am going to do something I never attempted before. I am going to attempt to briefly chart the progression of TPL. I was most amazed by this old thing I dug up in my files: ATTENTION POETS - 2nd Bi-Weekly Poetry Contest. Entry Fee: $5.00/poem. Send 2 typed copies on 8½x11 paper & SASE postmarked by 12/1/93 to: Poetic Endeavors, Lot #171 Hilltop Mobilehome PK., State College, PA. 16801. All submitted poetry is subject to later publication. CASH prizes awarded 12/15/93. It was on a word file that dated back to 93! WOW huh? Timeline------ 1993 - Advertisement you see above 1997 - The Poetic Link name was coined. Submission by snail mail only. Web site created for posting the winners only. I picked a winner each month from submissions. 1998 - TPL shut down due to lack of funds and lack of interest on my part. 1999 - TPL back online. This time with online submissions and credit card processing. I still picked winners. ONLY the winners were posted online since I did it all RAW html by myself. 1999 - TPL users asked for more. A contest was nice but empty since they never got any feedback of any kind. So I started critiquing EVERY SUBMISSION myself. A winner was picked each month still by me. 1999 - That got to be amazingly horrible. I could barely find time to do any critiques let alone update the site and respond to e-mail. So I started letting people vote on the winners. That worked for a while but turned out to be more work than before. I was still critiquing everything myself. Plus now I was tallying the votes and posting all the results along with votes received and it was a nightmare. 2000 - I almost called it quits but decided to make YOU GUYS do the work for me :) *laugh* ---hmmm how could I achieve that? I know... a database! TPL was born in its modern form. A database where people could submit online, use credit cards to submit, critiques would be done by YOU not ME :) So I could sit back and run it all. -This was the first time I thought I finally made something that might work! --Might I ever be able to make a living on this?? -hmmm I was already in the hole probably 1,000 bucks and scads of time with failed ideas for TPL. Ratings 1-5 for critiquers and poems both. 2000 - Scoring was too tight. Give us more of a range they beckoned! So 1 - 10 scales were developed. 2000 - Voting was too open complained the users. Give us guidelines. So categories were created for breaking the poem into 5 categories in an effort to allow people to find their weaknesses. 2000 - Voting was too biased, clicks were forming. So blind critiquing was established. 2000 - Critiquer rating was biased. So 100% blind critiquing and blind critiquer rating was established. 2000 - The blind system works fairly well but now we have entirely lost that personal feel. God the good old days were wonderful. Things will just never be the same. -So reveals were added after the critique and critique rating were given. Personal comments added to allow you to regain that personal warm fuzzy feeling :) -BAH! It's not the same ...this site sucks@! 2000 - Poor poets complained. Give us some way of participating in the contest you rich bastard! -So free submission prizes were given based upon work done. 2001 - Critiques were cheapened by the scads of 1 line wonders that popped up! ACK! TPL is ruined! I quit your site sucks! 2001 - Regulations were instituted to create tougher rules for getting at the free prizes. Damn this is too complex. I did 1 gazillion critiques and never got a FREEGIN credit. You Bastard! You sadistic bastard I quit! 2001 - Free prizes were abolished ...screw you, you poor penniless poet! I'm a rich bastard hahahah! 2001 - Open rating was re-instituted. All blind functions were removed! Wow the good ole days are back!!! woohoo!!! -Wait, you little prick, you gave me WHAT as a score?!?! This site sucks! I quit! 2002 - Scoring was abolished and voting was established. Hmmm this is definitely odd. How the hell do I get to my voting choices?!@?!@ This is too damn complicated! 2002 - We sit here reflecting. Looking at the past failures and wondering... what may now finally solve things or at least move us in the right direction. Something new perhaps... ah yes! *Laugh* I probably forgot 10 steps in there, so feel free to add to this thread! I wrote this as a serious post, and it turned into a joking post. It is written with very serious overtones though. But I poke fun at no-one but myself in this regard :) So no critiquer prizes hey? hmm it may work. Give more money to poets. That I like as well. Keep the voting ...yes probably. Give everyone equal weight in voting? hmmmm ok fine. Perhaps add checkboxes to submissions? (check all that you wish to receive): -Give me technical critiques -Give me "Gut Feelings" critiques -Give me praise only critiques ("butterfly and daisies") -Rip me a new one Perhaps give free credits to critiquers as they do critiques, no more scoring of critiquers??? hmmm with the system above it sure would give critiquers a lot better feel for what they should and should not do. OK I like everything accept for the critiques part guys. What will be the incentive to critique now? Submission credits alone may not do it and it opens up a TON of abuse issues with 1 line wonders. If we implement this system we have to put up constraints of some kind. Hmmm maybe I give last months top 20 poets, the power of VETO. You can revoke and re-instate individual critiquer's abilities??? This could be cool?! With that in mind, the poets could SHUT a critiquer off heh :) I'll have to add a new category to the above list: -Newbie and LOCKED critiquers may critique this poem That one will have a disclaimer on it, but it will give those who get locked, a chance to redeem themselves!? Also it will help newbies. Hmm also we should start tracking the number of critiques one has done. That could print right on their critique to you. So you know if they're new or if they're just being an ass. The new checkboxes listed above will give critics a huge help in how to tailor their critiques. It can even let them (woo I like this) select the type of critique they feel like doing right now. OK guys ... god I wish I had the time to do the programming required here. This is the part of programming that I love. The creative side. Inventing new and exciting systems and implementing them for you. BUT!!! Time is the problem. Anyone out there know a rich poet who would give me a grant for 100k so that I could do nothing but program the shit out of TPL for the next year straight? I'm serious, in a big way about that. I would love to do nothing but this site for 1 year solid. It would become something that I can not even fathom right now. -Pipe dreams are great to have :) -Chris
