Ancient Forest I stand steadfast peering at the dark edge of an eerie ancient forest as it beckons lost souls to wander in The howling of a chilled wind as it dances among the tall trees Silent, dreary and seemingly void of any life I journey deeper Crevices filled with the remains of past and once fearless visitors Snapping sounds as I walk upon the dead brush on the blackened forest floor Ahead a narrow path leading downward to a small clearing where an old weathered stone chapel covered with moss stands It's steeple displaying a broken cross and soundless bell Windows of brilliant colored stained glass reflecting the sun as in a gesture of praise Marble statues of angels which appear to be floating calling out for me to enter The massive door creakes as I push it open Sounds of awakened bats flying above echo in the domed chamber An alter made of gold and jewels sits in the center of the room, bloodstained from a ritual of sacrifice I canAs only imagine in my mind The eerie sensation of being watched by eyes you cannot see The hair on my neck stands on end I am paralized with fear but somehow manage to find strength and run swiftly leaving this evil place vowing never to return As I again stand at the edge of the ancient forest I now know My soul is not among the lost. kas5-22-00 As I again stand at the edge of the ancient forest I now know My soul is not among the lost.
