Fear

It was dark and gloomy as she walked  on the cobblestone street The air was thick and a fine mist was falling like a veil over the city Sounds of fog horns from distant ships bellowed in the night Nervously she walked scanning the alleyways as she passed  searching for shadows in the murky darkness Crossing an old wooden bridge she could feel the decaying wood bend with each step she took foward She tightened the belt on her rain coat and quickened her pace Home was now only yards away The bonging of the town clock startled her and she gasped holding her chest She could see her doorway to safety only moments ahead and let out a sigh of relief In one quick flash he grabbed her from behind Now as she lays silently on the sidewalk her life's blood drains from her Her fear subsides, her heart stops.
