Tweener

What do you do When you suddenly notice Your child is older than you? How long should you wait Before you tell them There’s a child that they never knew? Is the summer between High school and college A good time to sit and confess? Are they too intent On being adults To bother with childishness? I long to tell her About my mistakes In leaving my child behind And all of the agony Turmoil and pain And trying to go back in time To all of you “tweeners” Dwelling in limbo Between the old and the new As you start your crossing Into adult-land Please, take your child with you
