A Blank Sheet of Paper

A poet writes to understand his life, to make sense of it, yet he never gets it quite right, so he must pen the poem again and again. Often he Is his own worst foe as he redacts, subtracts, and slashes his stanzas, and lines of lustrous worth gather dust in the trash bin. To know his Life in the context of the larger world is to master it. But mastery aside, comes the day when he is ignited by an insight not seen Before and as he writes, he is aware that this verse will not be cursed to a refuse pile. His lines make music and now and forever, Poetry will take over his entire being. And he will never, ever be the same.

This is but one interpretation of why we poets write. I would be interested in knowing your own motivation.
