To Laurie from Grandma

I've a little girl in my house tonight A little girl with presence sweet, With merry eyes and merry smile And merry, happy dancing feet. I didn't dine alone tonight A little girl kept me company, "I've come to visit a couple of days, I love you, Grandma," she said to me. Nearby stands a chair, draped with tumbled up jeans And a little red sweater and blouse, The wearer is deep in the land of dreams and it's quiet all over the house. But I'm not alone, and my thoughts go back To the days and the nights of yore, When some other small folks weren't grown up and gone And I seem to be back there once more. Subject: Laurie When she visited me once when she was about 4 or 5 years old.
