So Many

I’ve seen so many In my short time Come looking for the gift   Only a few did not want it   I’ve seen some eyes Begin to brighten And others wide with fear   At facing what they couldn’t   I’ve seen so many In my short time Walking out the door   Never to return   Occasionally Their faces haunt me And I say a prayer   Their fortune is not mine to know

Additional Notes:
The hardest thing about recovery is all the people that come and go and you never hear from again. I try to assume the best but I think less than one in three is ultimately successful. Why some and not others? That question will probably never be answered.
