When it's all over...

The things we've said and done A mother to a son This bond that's like no other A son to a mother Though we laughed we often cried And though we both will say we tried We're really strangers in each other's worlds Sometimes I'm so afraid That we will reach our final day Never saying what we don't know how to say Our words just come out wrong Born of feelings deep and strong As we grope along and try to find our way Strangely so much like each other Helplessly we choke and smother Searching blindly for this something still unknown And we've heard so many say  That we are special in some way But together we feel lonely and alone If I could only help you see That you still mean the world to me I'm still the baby boy you loved so long ago I don't want this to go on Til all that's left is a headstone With only grass between us left to grow Can't we shed our foolish pride? And find the love that's still inside To heal the hurt we both have in our heart Because today could be the day That one of us will go away And forever more are forced to be apart
