*/\ * Sweety */\* *note: Hi!I'm Nick, Kelly Evans'12 year-old son. Mom let me post this as part of my allowance this week, which I didn't earn anyway because I've been gone to Boy Scout camp all week, so I guess I'm coming out ahead. I hope you all like this poem. I wrote this poem in a free period one day while I was in my 6th grade homeroom class watching birds sing outside the opened window and I thought to myself "Why doesn't the caged bird ever sing that way?" So, I wrote this and now thanks to mom I'm sharing it with you. Thanks, Nick The caged bird doesn’t sing because his wings are clipped tiny bands are slipped above his feet choking the sweet from his song the rage of wrong a lonely cry watching dreams go by a breeze he can not feel the closed window sill through the pane his pain sees these free things feet and wings not slipped not clipped not caged not raged the cry of the caged bird goes unheard his voice will only come with freedom I hope my neighbor, Misses Joan doesn’t notice that her bird is gone I freed her little Sweety tweet I heard his cry to sing a song of sweet ©Nicholas Evans 2000 |
