Smile On, Sweet Child

Smile on, sweet child. Lips so innocent smile so easily. Laugh on, funny one. A giggle so light fills the empty voids. Play on, young spirit. Your dream world betters reality. Lead on, growing wisdom. Lead into the venturesome darkness. The darkness of hate, of apathy, of fear. The ugliness of cluttered, littered streets,  Of cardboard boxes, homeless shelters. Thousands stumble through the shadows; Unfed mouths, screaming voices, Heartless murders, roaring injustice. The proverbial light beckons  From the depths of fire-filled tunnels Of disease, of death, of loss, of pain. Smile on, sweet child. Today’s shadow need not darken tomorrow. Laugh on, funny one. This world still has potential. Play on, young spirit. For change is always possible. Lead on, growing wisdom. Lead us into the dawn of the future.
